The Times, They Are A-Reversin’

So I’m at my place right now listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young on vinyl. My dad is at home listening to Radiohead on his iPod.

But we’re both drinking whiskey. Which, when it comes down to it, is all that matters.

I’ve Made a Terrible Mistake

As recently as a half hour ago I had a full, beautiful, Brian Wilson-like beard adorning my face.  I decided it needed a TINY trim.  I set the blade to a 9 and went to work.  After a full upper-manscaping I noticed I had missed a spot or two so I turned the clippers back on and went to work.  ONLY TO FIND THAT I HAD SET THE BLADE BACK TO A 1!!!!  After a scream, a cry, and a gentle face punch, I decided to set it to a 3 and do the whole thing once over.  Now, as you can see, I have a Miami Vice style douchebag beard.  Luckily for me it will all be back to normal in a week.

You’ll find my life is littered with stories of idiocy on my part.  It was only a matter of time before adding another chapter.

Circuital
My Morning Jacket

Oh my GOD you guys.  Remember how terrible the last MMJ album was?  No?  Me neither.  I listened to it once and gave up.  Good news though.  I feel the exact opposite about Circuital, their new album.  They’re baaaack.

I love music more than anything.  I hate music more than anything.  Nothing gives me more enjoyment yet frustrates me so much at the same time.  Except, perhaps, for the LADIES.

WATCH THIS VIDEO.

I don’t have anything against the Chili Peppers.  Some of my more embarassing college moments took place with their music playing in the background.  But this song came out in 1991.  (HOLY SHIT that was 20 years ago.  Wasn’t expecting that.  But I digress).  But that’s exactly the point!  I took this video THREE WEEKS AGO.  Those are the 2 most popular CURRENT rock stations in LA, and maybe the US.  Playing a 20 year old song, 3 seconds apart.  This is especially frustrating for someone like myself, who spends at least 2 hours a day in the car.  Usually more.

There is so much good music out there.  And the last place I find it is on the radio.  Thank god for the internet.  Everyone has access to everything.  Especially the stuff the radio won’t play.

This has made it increasingly difficult for me to be a music snob, though.  Now everyone’s a god damn indie music critic, but whatever.  I’ll take the good with the bad.

When was the last time you heard a new band on the radio and became a huge fan?  I honestly can’t remember.  Rather than take chances on new bands, we hear the same old retreads.  And I get it, the Chili Peppers and Linkin Park “test well.”  So play them.  OCCASIONALLY.  I can change the station for a few minutes.  Take a chance on some new stuff, I’m tired of Under The Bridge.

Or don’t.  I listen to Howard Stern 95% of the time anyways.  BABA BOOEY to y’all.

405
Death Cab For Cutie

This song works on two levels.  One, its super kickbutt.  And beautiful, really, when you just sit and listen to the lyrics with a glass of happy and your sadder romantic memories (especially if in LA).  Two, I spend HALF OF MY F-ING LIFE ON THE 405.  MAYBE THREE QUARTERS OF MY LIFE.  GOD I HATE THE 405.

But listen to the song.  It’s nice.

This is how you listen to the below song.

Angeles
Elliott Smith

Oh hi there reader.  What’s that?  You want to feel your heart ripped out through song?  Well I’ve got just what you need!  Listen to ANYTHING Elliott Smith has played EVER.  But god damn if this isn’t my favorite of all of them.  Have a whiskey, turn off the lights, and let it get you.  BECAUSE IT WILL.

WARNING: This one’s for the ladies.  I was really going to hold off on posting more golf stuff.  Then I got word that you babes were tired of playing my golf swing over and over.  The mail FLOODED in.  So I did it for you.  And added a little ambience.  3:33 of fun.  You enjoy now.  Ol’ Sanfo loves you.

Fragile
Trent Reznor

I was in the crowd for this one.  I was never a big Reznor or NIN fan prior to this, but god damn did he put on a hell of a show.  Completely acoustic at the Bridge School Benefit in 2006.  It was incredible.  Stick with this one through to the end.  I just listened to it and now I don’t feel funny.  But in a good way.
